Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Statement

Overcoming Miles Counseling is committed to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and diverse environment in all aspects of our work. We recognize that effective therapy and holistic healing are rooted in understanding and valuing everyone’s unique identity, experiences, and needs. Our JEDI policy reflects our dedication to creating a welcoming and accessible space for all clients and staff.

1. Justice

We are dedicated to advancing social justice within our therapeutic practice and community. This means actively working to identify and address systemic injustices and advocating for equitable treatment and opportunities for all individuals. Our commitment to justice involves challenging oppressive systems and practices and striving to create a more just and equitable world through our work.

2. Equity

Equity is central to our practice. We are committed to ensuring that every individual receives fair and just treatment, with access to resources and support tailored to their unique needs. We actively address and seek to rectify disparities and biases within our practice, aiming to provide equal opportunities for all clients and staff.

3. Diversity

We embrace and celebrate the rich tapestry of human diversity, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, socioeconomic status, disability, religious beliefs, and cultural backgrounds. Our practice is committed to acknowledging and appreciating the variety of perspectives and experiences that each person brings.

4. Inclusion

We aim to build a therapeutic environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and heard. Inclusion involves actively working to eliminate barriers to participation and ensuring that our practices are accessible to all. We are committed to listening to and integrating diverse voices and perspectives into our services and operations.

5. Anti-Racism

Our practice is resolutely anti-racist and actively works to dismantle systemic racism within our therapeutic approaches and organizational structure. We engage in ongoing education and reflection to address our own biases and to challenge discriminatory practices. We seek to provide therapy that recognizes and addresses the impact of racism on mental health and well-being.

6. Intersectionality

We recognize that individuals have multiple, intersecting identities that shape their experiences and needs. Our approach to therapy considers the complexity of these intersections, understanding that one’s experience of oppression, privilege, and identity cannot be fully understood through a single lens. We are committed to providing nuanced and sensitive support that acknowledges these overlapping identities.

7. Accessibility

We strive to make our services accessible to all individuals, including those with disabilities. This includes physical accessibility, as well as accommodations for language, communication, and other needs. We are committed to ensuring that our practices do not create barriers to accessing our services and that adjustments are made as necessary to meet the needs of our clients.

Implementation and Accountability

To uphold these values, we will:

- Provide ongoing training for all staff on DEI topics, including cultural competency and anti-racism.

- Regularly review and update our policies and practices to ensure they align with our JEDI commitments.

- Actively seek and incorporate feedback from clients and staff to improve our JEDI efforts.

- Address any incidents of discrimination or bias promptly and with a commitment to learning and growth.

Commitment to Continuous Improvement

We recognize that creating an inclusive and equitable environment is an ongoing process. We are committed to continuous learning, reflection, and improvement. Our goal is to create a therapeutic environment where everyone feels supported and empowered.

Overcoming Miles Counseling, welcomes and values the diverse backgrounds and perspectives of all individuals. We are dedicated to fostering a culture of respect, understanding, and support for every person we serve and employ.
